The Springfield Group began in December 2002, initially with a handful of members namely Debbie Morley, Sue Dyke, Janet Powell and Rita Perkins. Our first event was a Coffee Morning held just before Christmas in 2002 which raised well over £200 ...... and so from little acorns big oaks began to grow. During the course of the past 8 years the group has grown from strength to strength and now boasts over 20 active committee group members with a large support network of volunteers who give their time freely to help out at the events we run.
Our aim is to continue to raise as much money as we can and by doing so we hope to raise the profile of this wonderful charity that is helping so many people in their cancer journey.
We hold five main events a year comprising a Quiz Night, normally held in March, followed by a Summer Fete in June, a Barn Dance in October, a Pamper /Christmas Shopping Evening and a Christmas Bazaar in November.
In December we are supported by The Chelmsford Lions who very kindly escort us, together with Santa and his colourful Sleigh, around the streets of Chelmsford on our Christmas Street Collection within the local community.
Our sincere thanks to Dave Chandler and Santa, from The Chelmsford Lions, who support us by very kindly volunteering their time every Christmas.
Our Quiz Nights are great fun! - included in the ticket price is a superb Buffet Supper and entry into a free Prize Draw! All we ask of those attending is to bring their own drink and nibbles for the evening. Hosted by our very own Quiz Master, Tony Camp, who makes the event a thoroughly enjoyable and great night out whilst raising valuable funds for the Charity!
Our Summer Fete’s have become very popular and are extremely well attended. We have a superb Strawberry Cream Tea and refreshments together with lots of attractions including Plants, Homemade Cakes, Crafts, Cards, Books, Good as New, BBQ, Bottle Tombola, Teddy Tombola, Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Children’s Games, a Raffle and much much more!
We are very fortunate to have special appearances at our Summer Fetes by organisations such as Caprice, a local Orchestra who willingly give up their time to perform for us, The Essex Fire Service with a Fire Appliance (emergencies permitting), a wonderful group of children from Dance 21 who perform their dance routines for us and singers from a local School Choir.
Our Christmas Bazaar’s are equally as popular and well attended. These are in a very similar format to our Fetes but with a few variations to adapt to the Christmas Season! Instead of Strawberry Cream Teas we have Bacon Rolls and our other attractions include beautiful Christmas Crafts and Cards, Homemade Cakes including a Raffle for a superb Christmas Cake which is very kindly made and donated by Denise Fairley one of our volunteers, Books, Bottle Tombola, Teddy Tombola, Children’s Games, a Raffle and Santa is there too!
Great fun for all the family! - Come along and support us at one or all of our events - we will be delighted to see you!!
